Celebrate Nutrition Month With Smart Nutrition

In 1973, the first-ever National Nutrition Week was launched as an effective way to bring the topic of smart nutrition and healthy living to the American public. Soon, community health organizations, dietitians, schools and community centers began hosting nutrition education programs and offering healthy recipes in order to encourage and support healthier lifestyles. By 1980, their efforts were so popular and in-demand that National Nutrition Week was expanded into National Nutrition Month.

The theme for 2014’s National Nutrition Month is: “Enjoy the taste of eating right!” One of the best ways to get great fiber and nutrients along with tremendous flavor is by simply enjoying the gifts nature offers freely–fruits, vegetables and herbs. Enjoy in a salad, as a snack or in a wrap for a lunch both you and your kids will enjoy.

Chicken & Avocado Wrap

  • 2  flour tortillas (10-inch)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 avocado, chopped
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grilled chicken breast strips
  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 2 Tbsp Ranch Dressing

Lay tortillas flat. Then, add chicken and all fresh vegetables in center. Fold tortilla on each side, then roll up for the perfect wrap. (Use ranch dressing for dipping sauce). Cut to fit inside one section of Bento Box. Note: Do NOT hold wrap together with toothpicks for children under 4; it could present a choking hazard.
